My nephew Jake graduated from Naval Boot Camp in Chicago August of 2007. My mom, sister and I attended his graduation along with Jakes maternal grandmother Joanne and his aunt Linda. We were one proud group of women! You know that old saying? “It takes a village to raise a child” well my mom and Joanne were that village. Jake wasn’t dealt the best hand when it came to parents but the unconditional love from his grandparents, aunts and uncles made up for it. Although I must admit this aunt has wanted to slap the crap out of him a few times! Jake was never the type of kid that thought the world owed him something and he’s never been afraid to work hard for what he wants, his graduations from boot camp is proof of that. Jake has lead the way for this families generation into the military with my nephew Kevin following suit. The big question now is….who will be next?
For the second time! That was a great day! I was never so proud of that young man. He's had a hard row to hoe but he's done it and is making a good life for himself.
