This picture of Mark and I was taken in 1967. The view you see behind us is the same view I enjoy every time I visit my parents. We were very lucky children to grow up in the country and have the freedom to roam freely, play baseball, ride horses, build tree forts, swing on rope swings, pick berries, ride bikes and so many other things all in the comfort of our back yard. I remember thinking how lucky my friends that lived in neighborhoods were to have all those kids to play with. We didn't have a lot of kids to play with but that didn't matter to us because the ones we did have were better than all the neighborhoods in Watsonville.....At least I think so....what do you think Kathy, Ruth, John and Bill?
I was lucky in that I lived in a neighborhood, that at the time was in the country. So we had the best of both worlds!! But I have to agree, there's something very special about being surrounded by nature!
ReplyDeleteI so remember that LITTLE rock garden mom had in that part of the yard. Those flowers were gorgeous. What memories!
ReplyDelete"Exaactly right Lori! I think ALL of us would agree to that. I'm just figuring out how to get back out there now. "
ReplyDelete"We had it soooo good! We could roam around & no one had to worry about exactly where we were at all times. We came in the house only for dinner & band-aids....and, we brought the occasional snakes, lizards, frogs, pollywogs, and stranded baby bunnies with us.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if any of the plywood we hauled down the hill to the eucaluptus trees is still there! Haven't been down there in YEARS.
